I am burned out. These Christmas decorations have done me in this year. I feel like I entered the ring, and they knocked me out. I started out the season so excited for the holidays and decorating, and now, I just want to crawl into my sweats and slippers and hide from dusty boxes full of decorations. I did however this week, get a few shots of some decorations I put up in my mom’s house.
We have a large family, and usually Christmas Eve is a big event at their house, but this year, it will be very quiet. Some are going to Europe (luckies), and some live on the east coast, so it will just be a few of us. Because it will be a lite version of Christmas this year, my mom wanted her decorations to be simple and easy to put away.
I found this garland and plastic bulbs at the Dollar Store, and used the same method of attaching the bulbs as I did in my $20 Garland Post. I added two snowflakes, which are actually candle holders, with command hooks to the mirrors. To get them to sparkle, I placed some candle holders with candles in front of them. I switched out her autumn wreath with a Christmas one she had stored in her attic. Easy and simple.
This one took a bit longer. We actually decorated this Thanksgiving night over a glass of Moscato. HELLO! The evergreen is actually those rings you put around candles. We flipped them upside down over the sconce and added the burlap shades. I then attached red beads, while my husband stood back and made sure each swag was even. We used $1 snowflakes for sparkle and contrast, and tied off ribbons for a finished look. This project took about a few hours, and everything was purchased at the Hobby Lobbs.
I do this every year, but I am itching to organize, and that means putting away the tree…now. Just a few more days, and I need to relax. It’s the OCD, ADD, creative in me that is ready to move on and start something new. Geez, my poor children.
